My Tiny Hands donates 10% of our annual profits to the March of Dimes to help prevent premature labor and birth defects. Our 2006-2007 donation was made in loving memory of Parker John Pautlitz, born 18 weeks too soon. A special thanks to all of our customers for helping to make this important donation possible!
Our donation will go toward:
• Research into stress and other factors that may trigger preterm labor.
• Programs to educate pregnant women to recognize the warning signs of preterm labor.
• Tools to help health care providers find better ways to detect women who may be at risk for preterm labor.
The March of Dimes is stepping up to the plate to take on the devastating problem of premature labor—to find out what causes it and how it can be stopped. My Tiny Hands feels that this is an EXTREMELY important cause and we want to help.
March of Dimes Prematurity Campaign
Prematurity is a silent crisis in America. Every year more than 470,000 infants are born prematurely, and prematurity is on the rise. It now affects one out of every eight babies born in the United States.
Prematurity has been escalating steadily and alarmingly over the past two decades. Between 1981 and 2002, the rate of premature births rose from 9.4 percent to 12.1, an increase of more than 29 percent. Prematurity takes a severe toll on America’s families and strains our health care system. Each year, 100,000 children develop health problems because of their early births. And prematurity is the leading cause of death in the first month.
Preterm delivery can happen to any pregnant woman. It's happening more and more often. And, in nearly half the cases, no one knows why.
